Hello! We are
Bug Friend
…a husband and wife team that creates music and content for kids of all ages. We like to sing about science, emotional intelligence, waking up or going to sleep and we sure do love a good dance party! Mikey has been writing and performing songs for children as Mikey the Rad Scientist for the last decade. He’s also spent many years in education as a naturalist, teaching kids about gardening and nature. Kaylee is a musician and producer who loves performing with Mikey, creating film scores, and has worked in film and event production.
Bug Friend’s first single “OK Baby Go!” was written while Kaylee was expecting their first child Maggie! The rest of their debut album features songs they wrote for their baby as well as a few songs Mikey wrote teaching music at a local preschool.
We think music for kids should be something the whole family can enjoy! We like playing live shows and we like making music for movies and shows!
We went to hundreds of design conferences, were inspired by countless speakers and made tons of new connections and friends… but always walked away feeling like we were only talking about a fraction of what designers can do. This is an event dedicated to the rest of it.

We were always taught that art creates problems and design solves them. Is that an overly limiting way to think of our practice? Are we closing ourselves off to interesting opportunities by not embracing the role of troublemakers?
Speakers include Mark Novo, Sofia Pazari, Sandra Cami, Kevin Matsuya, Chase Nevins, Ida Kester, Helen Gates and more.
Enjoy live demonstrations of papermaking, Japanese calligraphy, screenprinting and other craft traditions with applications to both art and design.
