Making music that kids like and grown-ups don't hate.

Bug Friend is Mikey and Kaylee, a husband and wife team based out of Seattle that creates music and content for kids of all ages. They make music that educates and inspires kids while being enjoyable enough for grown-ups to survive repeated listens (because as parents, they know what happens when a kid finds a song they love). Their focus is on early childhood literacy, emotional intelligence, and fun, with an aim towards helping parents, teachers, and caretakers.

Mikey has worked with kids for over 20 years and has been performing full-time as Mikey the Rad Scientist since 2015, bringing science and nature to life through creative, interactive music in preschools, camps, and children's gardens. His superpower is taking complicated concepts (from science to vowel sounds) and distilling them down into easy-to-understand, fun and funny songs.

Kaylee has been performing and songwriting for over twenty years, creating songs that are emotional, hopeful, and humorous. Her superpower is her vulnerability and ability to connect with audiences of all ages.

New album alert.

Bug Friend's debut album, Alphabops, is set to release August 22, 2025. They've created a unique song for every letter in the alphabet, using just about every genre of music. Babies, toddlers, and even big kids will enjoy these playful tracks designed to meet kids wherever they are on their literacy journey—from first discovering their ABCs to expanding their vocabulary and understanding of the English language in a way that is fun, imaginative, and engaging.

Bug Friend Ethos

As parents themselves, Mikey and Kaylee know that the best family music isn't just entertaining—it's a tool for connection, learning, and making memories. They're not childhood development experts; they're just two grown-ups who believe that music has the power to make parenting, teaching and connecting with young people a little more fun and a lot more musical.

Inspired by pioneers like Joe Raposo who brought sophisticated musical styles to Sesame Street, Bug Friend exposes young listeners to diverse genres while keeping everything accessible and joyful. Their ethos centers on creating whole family entertainment where connection happens naturally through songs that everyone can enjoy.
